Conference and Meetings Support
Cancer Research UK has a small fund available to support scientific meetings and conferences that are being run by our researchers.
What is covered
The grants will support applications in two areas:
- Sponsorship for conferences
- Sponsorship for specialist meetings
What is not covered
Cancer Research UK is not able to provide any help with arranging venues for meetings or finding additional sponsorship. We cannot provide any other administrative support for the meeting.
Eligibility
Sponsorship for conferences
Cancer Research UK will support sessions at research conferences by sponsoring speakers, in line with these guidelines:
- The conference must be in the UK
- The application must be from a Cancer Research UK grant holder, who should be involved in organising the conference
- The conference session must be in a cancer-relevant research area
- The funding must be used to support a named speaker
- Cancer Research UK should be acknowledged wherever possible as a sponsor of the session and of the named speaker
- The application should include a list of proposed speakers, indicating which ones might be suitable for Cancer Research UK support.
Support for specialist meetings
There is also funding available to support smaller specialist cancer research meetings or workshops, in line with these guidelines:
- The meeting must be in the UK
- The application must be from a Cancer Research UK grant holder, who should be the organiser or one of the main organisers of the meeting
- The whole meeting must be in a cancer-relevant research area
- The funding may be used for any purpose
- Cancer Research UK should be acknowledged wherever possible as a supporter of the meeting
- The applicant must submit a one-page report of the meeting; if the support was for a workshop or a discussion meeting, the report should summarise any conclusions that were drawn.
Period of funding
Although meetings are only for a few days, the period of grant funding on your application must be a minimum of one month.
Funding value
It is likely that the maximum sponsorship for any conference will be £500, if supporting a UK-based speaker, or £1000 for overseas speakers.
It is likely that the maximum funding for any one specialist meeting will be £2000.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted via our electronic Grants Management System (eGMS). See How to apply for more information and to submit your application via eGMS.
For assistance with completing your application, please also see the Application guidelines for conference and meetings support (PDF, 124KB).
Word copy application forms will no longer be accepted for this scheme.
All decisions are subject to funding being available, and are at the discretion of the Research Operations and Funding staff of Cancer Research UK.
Additional notes
For both application routes, the funding will be awarded directly to the named Cancer Research UK researcher that is helping organise the meeting or conference.
For both types of funding, Cancer Research UK would welcome any opportunities to promote its activities through the meeting: for instance by distributing leaflets, sending a representative to attend the meeting, or having a stand at any associated trade fair. You should indicate in your application whether this would be possible.
