Population Research Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Population Research Postdoctoral Fellowship provides support for outstanding postdoctoral researchers to develop their careers in the field of population science.

What is covered

The Fellowship provides support for postdoctoral researchers to carry out research in the following areas:

  • Clinical and public health epidemiology
  • Educational and behavioural research in areas of prevention, screening and early diagnosis
  • Clinical trials methodologies or statistics
  • Secondary effects of treatment

Applications are considered on the basis of the applicant's academic achievements and potential, the scientific merit of the research proposal, and the research environment provided by the host department.

Eligibility

Applicants should have completed, or be about to complete, their PhD and have less than six years of postdoctoral research experience at the time of submitting their application.

Applications are welcomed from clinical and non-clinical researchers. Please note that clinicians holding a consultant post are not eligible to apply for this fellowship, but can apply for the Clinician Scientist Fellowship.

Applicants should be aiming to gain postdoctoral experience, with the ultimate objective of building an independent research group.

Candidates of any nationality may apply but must intend to pursue a career in the UK.

Most university departments are eligible locations; however, there are a number of locations that are not eligible, and applicants should contact the Office prior to application to ensure that their selected host institution is acceptable.

Please note that these Fellowships cannot be held in the Cancer Research UK core funded Institutes in London (the London Research Institute), Manchester (the Paterson Institute for Cancer Research), Glasgow (the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research), Cambridge (the Cambridge Research Institute) or Oxford (Gray Institute for Radiation Oncology and Biology).

Period of funding

The Fellowship will be awarded for a period of three years.

Funding value

The Fellowship provides funding for the salary for the Fellow, research expenses and equipment.
