Travel Awards
As part of a review of Cancer Research UK's policy for funding attendance at conferences, a temporary scheme has been introduced to allow Cancer Research UK-funded research staff apply for travel awards to attend scientific meetings. We will consider requests for funding for grant holders and staff paid through grants (in the University sector on Fellowships, Project or Programme grants, but not those in core-funded Institutes) to attend scientific meetings. You must be making a presentation (either poster or oral) at the meeting, and that abstract for the presentation must have been accepted at the time of application.
Guidelines
Support will be provided for one member of a group to attend a conference or workshop to present work funded by Cancer Research UK.
Grant holders are advised to prioritise the applications submitted by members of their staff as we will not support more than one application per group in this financial year.
All requests for funding to attend conferences must be made in writing by the grant holder well in advance of the meeting and should include a copy of the conference programme, the title of the paper, accepted abstracts and a full breakdown of costs.
Grantees should note that there are no automatic rights to travel awards.
We have limited funds and therefore have set the following amounts:
- Up to £1000 for international conferences
- Up to £700 for national conferences.
Application process
All applications must be made as far in advance as possible, and not less than one month before the meeting. Applications must be made by email using the Travel Awards application form (Word, 120KB).
Please send your applications to fellowships@cancer.org.uk. Please use this email address to contact us if you require further information about this scheme.
Future funding
This funding stream is still under review and will only be available until March 2009. From April 2009, the policy on support for attending meetings will be included as part of the revised Terms and Conditions for Research Grants and Awards.
More details on the new policy will be provided with the publication of the revised Terms and Conditions early next year.
