Liverpool is one of the most famous British cities in the world with a diverse culture, industrial, trade and sporting history. Over 800 years old, the city began as a small 13th century fishing village and developed into a maritime and industrial powerhouse in the 18th and 19th century - by the early 19th century, over 40% of the world's trade passed through Liverpool. More recently, the city is famous for its Premier League football club and as being the birthplace of The Beatles.
