Nursing Research Training Fellowship

The Cancer Research UK Nursing Research Training Fellowship is intended to support nurses who wish to undertake a period of full or part-time training in a cancer relevant research field, leading to the presentation of a PhD.

Cancer Research UK only considers applications that are cancer orientated and contain a definite research focus.

Applicants will be considered on the basis of their academic achievements and potential; the appeal and scientific merit of the research project; the research environment provided by the sponsoring department, and the availability of supporting expertise and resources

Eligibility
All applicants should be nurses registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and hold a good first degree.

Previous research experience or further qualifications, for example a Masters degree or training in research methods, would be an advantage.

Applicants may be of any nationality but must have been resident and working in the European Economic Area (EEA) for three years immediately before application and intend to pursue a career in the UK.

Location
These Fellowships are tenable throughout the UK in Cancer Research UK or other academic or medical departments.

Please note that it is the responsibility of the applicant to identify and approach a suitable host institution and supervisor.

Research Support Available
These fellowships are tenable for three years on a full time basis and longer by arrangement on a part-time basis.

The Fellowship provides research expenses, an appropriate salary in line with the applicant's current salary and grade and standard university consolidated fees for post-graduate students (plus college fees at the universities of Oxford and Cambridge).

Cancer Research UK will expect basic equipment to be provided by the host institution but requests for essential specialised items may be made, provided they are fully justified.

Towards the end of the Fellowship, requests for an additional year of funding for the Fellow's salary will be considered, in order to facilitate transfer back into clinical practice.

Number of Awards
The number of awards available will be announced when applications are invited for this scheme.

Application Procedures and Deadlines
Details about the application process and timetable will be made available in due course.

For further information about this Fellowship please email Dr Christopher Page, Research Manager (Personal Awards).
