Cancer Research UK has established a funding stream to support short-term training needs in a cancer-related field.Who are the Bursaries for?
Clinicians, nurses and those in professions allied to medicine
- To provide funding for short-term training needs (no more than 1-2 years in most cases)
- To encourage clinicians, nurses and those in professions allied to medicine to undertake research training in a cancer-related field
- To encourage Academic Clinical Fellows (UKCRC/MMC Integrated Academic Training Programme, i.e., 'Walport' post holders) to undertake research
- To allow clinicians or nurses to gain research experience before submitting applications for Clinical Research Training Fellowship (CRTF) or Nurse Research Training Fellowship (NRTF)
Group Leaders, Senior Fellowship holders, Principal Investigators
- To provide current Cancer Research UK researchers receiving long-term grant support or programme grant funding additional funds which allows them:
- To allow them or their postdoctoral scientists to visit a collaborating laboratory
- To invite their collaborators to visit their laboratory
- To support an undergraduate student project during the summer vacation
Medical schools
- To assist undergraduate medical students to take up a cancer related option during their elective period of study.
What bursaries are available?
Cancer Research UK offers the following bursaries:
- Research Bursaries for clinicians, nurses and those in professions allied to medicine to undertake short term research (12 months or less)
- MSc/Diploma Bursaries for cancer-relevant training courses
- Short Training Course Bursaries for those interested in oncology or transdisciplinary research training
- Collaborator Bursaries for current Cancer Research UK group leaders or grant holders to allow them or their postdoctoral scientists to visit a collaborating research group; or to invite a collaborator to visit their group
- Long Vacation Bursaries for Cancer Research UK group leaders or grant holders who would like to host an undergraduate student during the summer vacation
- Medical Elective Bursaries for medical schools to offer undergraduate medical students the opportunity to take up a cancer related elective.
