What is the Short Training Course Bursary?
To fund travel costs and registration fees for attending short training courses (e.g. oncology workshops, special skills training courses, training courses for a new technique).
Who can apply?
All applicants must ensure that their Short Training Course fits within the remit of our Research Strategy.
- UK based clinicians, nurses or researchers with an interest in oncology.
- Clinicians, nurses and applicants in professions allied to medicine are particularly encouraged to apply.
Candidates of any nationality may apply but must have been resident and working in the European Economic Area (EEA) for three years immediately before application and intend to pursue a medical career in the UK.
Key features of the Bursary
Funding will be awarded on the basis of:
- The course identified must have an obvious research training component;
- The training course must be designed to promote transdisciplinary working or promote new technology relevant to your research;
- The relevance of the training course to the individual's work in cancer research must be made clear.
- The total requested grant should be less than £1000
What does the Bursary not cover?
- The bursary cannot be used to support attendance at conferences.
- Funding for more than one person from a particular laboratory to attend a short training course in any one year.
- PhD students
How to apply
- Applications should be submitted by the person attending the training course
- The bursary will be awarded to the host institution of the principle applicant

Applications for the Short Training Course Bursaries are now invited for the August 2009 to January 2010 period. Applications should be submitted at least 10 weeks before the start date of the course.
