Tobacco Advisory Group (TAG) Grants

Overview
The Tobacco Advisory Group (TAG) is a funding and policy-setting committee. Cancer Research UK has a number of tobacco priority policy areas. Through the TAG we aim to complement our policy and campaigning work by funding related research and projects as well as funding other work of national and international significance.

The committee currently funds two main areas of national and international tobacco work - policy research and policy campaigning/advocacy activities. A small amount of support is given to health promotion research and interventions.

For further information about the TAG and the type of work funded, please click here.

Please Note:
The Population and Behavioural Sciences Committee (PBSC) also funds some work related to smoking cessation treatments, and population and epidemiological studies in tobacco. See Population and Behavioural Sciences Funding for more information.

Funding applications
The TAG is a very small funding committee and all applications must be discussed in advance. Grants are usually in the range of £10,000-£30,000 and rarely exceed £50,000 per annum.

There are currently two funding allocation meetings a year (please see below).

To know whether your work is suitable to be considered by the TAG, please email tag@cancer.org.uk or phone 020 7061 8151. Please contact us well in advance of the deadline for the meeting at which you wish your application to be considered and provide us with a brief description of the project (approximately 200-400 words) and an estimated budget and timings. If you are encouraged to apply for funding, you will be sent the appropriate funding application form and asked to submit this before the application deadline.

Please note that all TAG applications will now be completed and submitted online using the Application Management System (AMS).
