From its first issue, more than fifty years ago, the journal's mission has been to encourage communication of the very best cancer research from laboratories and clinics in all countries. This is shown today in its international authors, the breadth of its coverage, its consistent high standards and an editorial independence that has made BJC one of the world's premier general cancer journals. Its increasing popularity is reflected in rising submissions and a rising impact factor, currently of 4.115, ranking 33/123 for Oncology.
BJC publishes 24 issues per year, which are available in print and online. Most papers also appear as advance online publications.
