Research prize winners announced at NCRI
Monday 8 November 2010
The winners of Cancer Research UK's three inaugural research prizes were announced yesterday at the NCRI Cancer Conference 2010 in Liverpool.
The quality of nominations for each prize was very high, and the selection panel which comprised international cancer experts, thought that the winners were exceptional candidates for the prize and deserved recognition for their achievements.
In a presentation ceremony hosted by Harpal Kumar, chief executive of Cancer Research UK and Professor Sir David Carter, chair of the prizes selection panel, the winning scientists were presented with a commemorative trophy and an honorarium.
The four prize winners are:
- Professor Sir Richard Peto for the Lifetime Achievement in Cancer Research Prize.
- PARP inhibitor study team led by Professor Ruth Plummer for the Translational Cancer Research Prize.
- Dr Peter Campbell and Professor Jorge Reis-Filho for the Future Leaders in Cancer Research Prize.
