Winners of Cancer Research UK research prizes 2011 announced

The winners of the 2011 Cancer Research UK Future Leaders in Cancer Research and Translational Cancer Research Prizes were announced yesterday at the NCRI Cancer Conference in Liverpool.
The winners are:
- The Manchester biomarker research team for the Translational Cancer Research Prize; and
- Professor Thomas Brunner and Dr Sarah Martin for the Future Leaders in Cancer Research Prize.
The winners were presented with a commemorative trophy in a presentation ceremony hosted by Harpal Kumar, chief executive of Cancer Research UK and Professor Sir David Carter, who led the prizes selection panel.
Professor Chris Marshall FRS who won the 2011 Lifetime Achievement in Cancer Research Prize, was also presented with a trophy and gave a lecture about his research.
The Prizes selection panel comprising international cancer experts, agreed that all the winners were highly deserving of their Prizes, and had made important contributions in their fields.

Nominations for the 2012 Prizes are now open - the deadline for nominations is 11 April 2012.
