Research Goals Increasingly the biology of stem cells is becoming relevant to cancer research with the concept that many tumours may be maintained by a minor population of 'cancer stem cells'. Yet generally within epithelial tissues the properties of stem cells have proven difficult to define. Our goal is to identify and wherever possible quantify the stem cell character of both normal tissues and cancers and to use this information to devise novel therapeutic interventions.
