Kevin Ryan - Overview
The aim of our research group is to identify and understand the factors regulating programmed cell death (apoptosis) in tumour cells. Inactivation of apoptotic pathways is a critical event during tumour progression.
Moreover, since many standard forms of chemotherapy kill tumour cells by inducing apoptosis, inactivation of apoptotic pathways can also lead to the effectiveness of therapies being compromised. Investigation of the factors controlling this process should, therefore, result not only in the improvement of existing clinical regimens, but also in the identification of novel targets for therapeutic intervention.
