Research Goals
Basic research on the mechanisms that control papillomavirus cell transformation, and on the mechanisms used by the virus to evade the host immune response. In addition to a deeper understanding of the virus biology, the research is aimed at the development of procedures, chemical or immunological, which, by interfering with the biology of the virus, can lead to prevention/cure of infection.

1984 - Awarded a CRC Life Fellowship, the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research, Glasgow, Scotland
1999 - Professor of Viral Oncology, Institute of Comparative Medicine, University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Scotland
2006 - Appointed FRSE
