Professor Julian Blagg graduated in chemistry from the University of Oxford in 1984 and completed his DPhil in chemistry at Oxford in 1986 working with Professor Steve Davies. He then moved to the University of Geneva as a Royal Society postdoctoral research fellow with Professor Wolfgang Oppolzer. He joined Pfizer, Sandwich, UK in 1988 as a medicinal chemistry team leader working in the Urology and Cardiovascular therapeutic areas. In 1998 he moved on sabbatical to lead Inflammation chemistry at Pfizer, Groton, USA. He returned to the UK in 1999 as head of the Pfizer laboratories located at the University of Kent at Canterbury. In 2001 he returned to Sandwich where he led medicinal chemistry in the Sexual Health and Obesity therapeutic areas.
In 2007, Julian was appointed Head of Exploratory Medicinal Sciences (EMS) in Sandwich with overall responsibility for the platform groups enabling therapeutic area delivery in Sandwich. In October 2007, he was appointed as Professor and Head of Chemistry at the Cancer Research UK Centre for Cancer Therapeutics, The Institute of Cancer Research, Sutton, Surrey, UK.
