Research Goals
The programme is centred on development of improved radiotherapy techniques, and includes teams in the ICR Section of Physics and of Radiotherapy. Physics teams address new techniques such as intensity modulation and stereotactic delivery, as well as biological modeling of tissue tolerance with respect to radiation dose and volume. These have underpinned clinical trials in prostate and breast cancers as well as CNS tumours. Further work addresses applications to head and neck, lung and paediatric cancers. There are also clinical phase II and III studies of management issues in urological, breast and CNS tumours involving both radiotherapy and systemic therapies.
