Research Goals
To thoroughly understand how the eukaryotic cell cycle is controlled and how cell division generates two spatially organised cells from the original single cell, and to establish the relevance of these controls for cancer.
Qualifications and Personal History
PhD 1973 UEA.
Postdoctoral work at the Universities of Bern, Edinburgh and Sussex (1973-1984).
Professor at University of Oxford (1987-1993).
Head of Imperial Cancer Research Fund (now known as Cancer Research UK) laboratory 1984-1987 and since 1993.
Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2001 (jointly awarded with Tim Hunt).
