Research Goals
To understand the genetic pathway leading to colorectal carcinogenesis and identify the alternative mutations and epigenetic changes that contribute to particular phenotypic phases of this pathway. The practical aim is to uncover new opportunities for therapeutic intervention, as well as early detection and clues to prevention. To analyse and interpret HLA and other diversity in human populations.
Qualifications and Personal History
PhD Cambridge University, 1959, FRS, FRCPath.
Professor of Genetics, Stanford University and Oxford University. Joined ICRF 1979; Director of Research, 1979-1991; Director General, 1991-1996. Principal Hertford College since 1996.
