Updating the research strategy
Our current research strategy was developed by working closely with our Scientific Executive Board, scientific Trustees, Science Strategy Advisory Group and the many other members of the national and international research community who regularly provide us with expert advice.
Over the next 18 months we will be working with our advisors to update our research strategy.
Ten priority questions
As a first step we will be exploring the following ten priority questions:
- Is the population/basic/translational/clinical research mix in our portfolio still appropriate?
- What role should Cancer Research UK play in funding large cancer clinical trials?
- Are we doing enough in brain, lung, oesophageal and pancreatic cancers?
- Given the emerging and future trends in personalised medicine, what is the best strategy for Cancer Research UK?
- Is the level and focus of our research on metastatic disease appropriate?
- Is our current investment in model systems appropriate?
- What is the right model for Cancer Research UK Centres?
- For clinical and translational work, team science is critical to achieve results. How do we encourage or facilitate this?
- Does the current response mode model stimulate research of the right quality and impact?
- What are the critical skills gaps and how should we address these?
How can you contribute?
We want to know how we can best support the cancer research community to fund the bold ideas that will transform our impact on cancer.
If you have views on these questions, or other ideas you would like to explore, please contact the Research Strategy team.
