Scientific summary
Actively transcribed convergent genes (CGs) of S. pombe generate extended dsRNA in G1. This dsRNA is formed as a result of inefficient transcriptional termination on CGs and so results in a transient heterochromatin mark formed by action of the nuclear RNAi pathway.
