Postdoctoral researchers
Postdoctoral researchers are the backbone of scientific research. The majority of researchers employed on our grants and in our Institutes are postdoctoral researchers, and Cancer Research UK supports them in several ways. Find out how we support new investigators in our latest report.
Project funding is also available to postdoctoral researchers who have already secured a position in a research institute or university.
Many postdoctoral positions arise through existing Cancer Research UK grants and fellowship awards. When new positions become available, grant holders post vacancies on the Science Jobs Board, which should be your first port of call for postdoctoral positions supported by Cancer Research UK.
You should also check our core-funded Institutes for opportunities there.
The Population Research Fellowship is currently the only fellowship Cancer Research UK offers to fund individual postdoctoral researchers. The award is available to clinical and non-clinical researchers who are either just finishing, or already hold a PhD and have fewer than six years of postdoctoral experience.
Cancer Research UK funded postdoctoral researchers can apply for a Research Travel Award. These provide funding for travel, accommodation and equipment for specific research projects. Visits must last between two weeks and three months, and can be to either UK or overseas research groups.
